Screen Shot 2015-01-12 at 12.01.00 PMClub Cafe was unsurprisingly packed on Thursday January 8th for the R&B/Soul show put on by the sultry singer Rachel B., followed by a raucous performance by Lyndsey Smith and the Soul Distribution. Rachel B released her debut EP “I’m the Boss” in 2014 and subsequently headlined a 10-city cross county tour. The Berklee alumnus has recently relocated to Pittsburgh to work as an independent artist. Her set was brimming with sass, playful energy, and unquestionable talent. One moment she was giggling about ripping pantyhose and teasing her guitar player, and the next belting out originals “I’m the Boss” and “Vicious.” I’m all about lady-power, so needless to say I was into the equally flirty and ferocious set.

She was followed by the 9-wo/man group Lyndsey Smith and Soul Distribution. Their soulful set was entertaining and powerful, especially since they were saying goodbye to their bass player, Beni Rossman. It’s incredible that this group has been named “Pittsburgh’s hidden sensation” by Steel City Entertainment since they were anything but, filling the space with their energy. In fact, the band was asked to turn down their instruments more than once.
